The Unknown Effects Of Spanking That Will Creep Up To You

Posted from

Spanking has been passed down through the years as an effective way to stop children from misbehaving and keeping them in check. Unknown to most, its effect might be noticeable in an instant, but recent research results have shown that spanking does not only violate the rights of the child, but results in academic, health and relationship problems as those children turn into adults.

Has spanking really been effective in keeping children away from trouble?

Many of the advocates for spanking and those who think it is effective cannot really point out direct ways that it has helped them stop behaving excessively during their childhood, they just believe it was administered for their own good and wrongly believe it made them stop the bad behavior. If that was the point it ended, there would have been no wrong done except to them as individuals, but this lot pass spanking on as appropriate for enforcing right behavior in a child. Following the 2007 UN convention and the call for banning of all forms of physical and mental violence on children, many people are finally starting to heed the warnings of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

What does spanking do to your child?

The article How Spanking Affects Later Relationships by James Hablin samples the findings of many researches on the effects of spanking. All of the researchers pointed at spanking as a horrible thing that does not just stop at failing to correct childhood excesses, but leads to several academic, health and relationship problems along the line. Most times leading to cancer, heart diseases, and respiratory illnesses at a young age. Child spanking is also linked to aggressive behavior, dating violence and other forms of violence as the child turns into an adult.

What are the alternatives to spanking?

The article does so much to discredit spanking and provided results from research to back up the claims however; it is not enough to paint is as bad without leaving an alternative in place for people to fall back on. Hablin gathered several alternatives that includes communication and connecting to the child. The truth lies in the fact that these alternatives may not prove to be effective instantly because we live in a fast-paced world with stressors piling up before everybody however, they are sure to yield results for the now and the future when effectively administered. It is also important that this discourse on spanking starts on a national scale and then spread to the very roots of society.

We cannot control the present and as a result, risk losing the future completely. Spanking is outdated, ineffective and creates even more trouble going forward. Instead, teaching healthy relationships and healthy social habits proves positive down the years. The effects of spanking are numerous and devastating.

10 Motivational Tips That Will Actually Make Your Life Better

Posted from

You're reading 10 Motivational Tips That Will Actually Make Your Life Better, originally posted on Pick the Brain | Motivation and Self Improvement. If you're enjoying this, please visit our site for more inspirational articles.

Has life been quite dull lately? Do you find yourself stuck in a rut that’s not letting to get anywhere in life? Here are ten motivations that we hope get you through this tough time.
  1. Be your own inspiration. There is nobody on this earth who knows you better than you do. However transparent you are with the rest of the world, you are entirely true to only yourself at the end of the day about what exactly you want and how exactly to achieve this. Once you know exactly what you want, work towards achieving it for yourself and no one else.
  2. Do not allow yourself to be taken for granted at any point of time. You owe yourself the very best at all times and this does not include being taken for granted by others. When others don’t value your presence enough this reflects directly on your self esteem and acts as a demotivating aspect. Hence if you feel like you’re not given due credit, do something about it.
  3. Build up self confidence by doing things you normally wouldn’t. Try out things you always believed you’re not good at. Be it a new skill or something tried and tested. Unless it really requires innate talent, get good at it no matter how hard you need to work on it. Be around people who appreciate your positive developments and avoid the company of those who don’t. Meanwhile appreciate yourself. Your appreciation matters most to you.
  4. Don’t be a people pleaser. Yes it is perfectly natural to want to make others happy by doing something we do even if it brings you a bit of discomfort. But unless the person means something to you and deserve the hours you spend toiling for them, don’t subject yourself to unrewarding work. It puts you down and brings down even your baseline morale. Exclusively seek the company of those who ask you to believe in yourself and encourage you to do things for yourself. It is always okay to be selfish when compared to being a push over.
  5. Learn how to manage your time super efficiently. Once you break patterns of continuous dullness and a depressive rut, you will find yourself enter a new zone- one with possibilities of new achievements. During this time, set yourself a time table that can trick your mind into thinking it is a flexible one. Position leisure and work in ways that they don’t clash one another but the prospect of leisure does motivate better work to be done. When managed effectively, productivity will increase and you’ll enter a motivational cycle of work and fun where both are equally important. You can find more about productivity and motivation at
  6. Be forgiving of yourself. Whoever you have wronged and whatever mistakes you have done, no one else’s forgiveness matters in real but yours. There is no bigger motivation than a second chance to set things right and don’t be afraid to give yourself this chance. Once you forgive and accept yourself work hard towards making amends. While it is always going to be true that nothing can be done perfectly and the impact of your mistake can’t be altered; you can always make things better than they are in the period following the mistake. What’s done is done.
  7. The past holds you back. There is no point in living through your memories and good moments from the past- spend focus on making fresh memories and on living rather than reliving moments. Happiness and positive emotions always keep you motivated so work towards renewing these by living in the present that you work upon maintaining light and happy. Spend more time with people and things that make you happy. Realize that life is short and happiness shouldn’t be a concept that is futuristic. Reach out to it and motivate others to do so as well.
  8. Find something that you find is actually worth living for. When everything else seems off in life, this something is the reason you get out of bed in the morning. It could be your best friend, a person you are securely falling in love with, your pet or family or even your job if you do what you love to do. Hold on to this- whichever it is that is giving you more than it’s drawing from you and give your best to it. Motivate yourself to be the best at whatever you do.
  9. Gain worldwide knowledge and experience. Don’t spend time reading inspirational stories but rather research on ways of how you can inspire and motivate yourself without having to live someone else’s life.
  10. Lastly, positive stress is the ultimate key. Set yourself some limitations and goals- target yourself at achieving these. Prioritise self goals and give yourself time to reach these. You’ll never need further motivation than the one of prospective self achievement.

7 Tools Every Blogger and Marketer Need to Be Using in 2018

Posted from

Want to make 2018 your best year ever? Of course, you do! The big difference between those who will find massive success in the new year versus those who just continue to ‘do business’, is going to be the ones that put the best tools, automation, and monetization methods to use for them.

Instead of preaching about the importance of great content creation and marketing, let’s jump right into our list of some of the best tools, services, and resources you should consider using in the new year.

How active are you currently on social media? Probably quite active, but are you monitoring all social updates and mentions across all platforms? At the same time, are you even looking at what’s being posted to the search results, online forums and various other sites about your personal name or brand? Probably not…

If this is the case, you could definitely benefit from using a tool like Sentione — which an advanced ‘social media listening’ tool, that basically does all of the online monitoring for you. In addition to actively monitoring the majority of the internet for any personal names or brands you might have, it’s also a great platform for reputation management. After all, having a great presence online isn’t just about knowing where you are being mentioned, but also how to respond and know what people are saying. Sentione makes all of that possible.

Running an online blog and business had a ton of benefits. However, one of the negatives is that you can quickly find yourself overloaded with emails, content, invoices, documents and much more. While tools like Google Docs and Sheets can make management over such data less complicated, there are better options out there.

One such option is PandaDoc, which not only allows for better management of your documents and files, but also streamlines the process for how yourself, team members, and clients access, send, and reply as well. Through the use of this quoting software, it’s helped thousands of customers not only save time, but also increase earnings in the process. It’s now reported that over $16 million worth of deals have now been closed to clients using PandaDoc. If you are doing any type of freelancing, hiring, media buying campaigns of invoicing of any type, you will appreciate how this platform can make your data and document headaches a whole lot better in 2018.

To continually compete against some of the biggest names in the industry and pull customers and business away from them, you need to gain the trust and respect of your audience. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through the use of customer testimonials and social proof. While many of us are already familiar with the concept of text and video testimonials, there is actually a new method out that is sweeping the internet by storm — and that is Proof. This extremely simple, yet effective, service allows site owners and brands to show a quick little popup of previous users and customers who have already taken action on a site.

If you want to see a working example of this, head over to and just see how many new users are getting active on the site and starting a blog of their own.

With way too many websites and blogs on the internet today, it’s going to be tough to compete. It’s not just about making sure your content and service are great, it’s also about making sure your site is loading as fast as possible. As attention spans continue to diminish and more people are short on time, just a second or two in site delays can cost your site or online business thousands of dollars and millions of customers over the course of the year. One of the best ways to combat such issues, while also making sure your site is up and running at all times, is through the use of a quality CDN (content delivery network).

Since most of us already have web hosting plans in place, you should already understand the importance of having your site online, while also running off a fast server. What a CDN does, is basically boost the performance of your site, while also putting less stress on your server in the process. If you don’t currently have a CDN in place, right now is a great time to get started with one.

Like it or not, text content is quickly taking a back seat to online video. With more internet traffic now coming from mobile devices than ever before, the demand for online video is just going to continue. The same can be said of social media as well, it’s now more video focused and less about text.

With all of that in mind, if you want to compete and grab the eyes of your audience, you need to start creating online video as well. However, this doesn’t mean you need to become a YouTube star and get millions of followers. It simply means you need to create video content catered to your audience.

One of the best ways to accomplish this is through the use of explainer and whiteboard videos. While there is some level of design skill required to create these from scratch, there are platforms like mysimpleshow, which have made the video creation process as simple as using their drag and drop editor. Try it out and see how you can start using online video to build your blog or brand in 2018.

It seems like everyone is jumping into the world of e-commerce these days. Ever since a few people started reporting about how much money they are making through dropshipping and selling online, everyone is coming out with a store of their own — which is awesome!

One of the problems here is that there are way too many solutions and shopping carts out there to choose from. It can be a job in itself just to try and find the right one to use.

BigCommerce continues to make a great name for themselves as one of the major players in the e-commerce space, not only helping their clients get started with an online store but also managing shipping and payments, while even allowing for the posting of products on Amazon, Ebay, Facebook and more. While you might also find that BigCommerce higher in price than some of the leaders in this space, you will also find that they offer more built-features, which allows you to actually grow at a faster space and more less money in the long run.

If you are reading this blog, you likely already have web hosting for your site or blog. However, not all web hosting is the same. For example, pCloud is a premium hosting service that is focused mainly on ‘data storage’ and keeping your files sale. This could be anything from personal photos, business documents, music files, and much more. At the same time, pCloud also offers ‘unbreakable security’ through their platform to make sure your files are not just private and confidential, but that they are also encrypted at the highest level possible. It doesn’t matter if you are a blogger in the making or a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, it’s always great to back up your personal data and files online, while also making sure they are accessible from anywhere, yet protected at the same time.

3 Simple Ways to Make It a Happy New Year

Posted from

“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters.” ~Audrey Hepburn

Happiness and its pursuit fascinate me.

Like most people, I’m curious why on some mornings I wake up and the world is a wonderful place—the sun is shining, happiness oozes out of my heart like warm honey, and the sound of bird song brings a smile to my face. I can only describe this as bliss.

On other mornings, it feels as if all color and wonder in world has drained away. My heart feels heavy in my chest. I’m indifferent to the sound of birds singing outside my window; if anything, it irritates me.

Why? How? What is the difference that makes the difference with happiness? I’d love to have the answers.

All I can do I share my truth. Share how I intend to make 2018 a happy new year.

1. Focus on what makes me feel good

As Tony Robbins says, “Focus creates feeling.”

It’s my choice whether I focus on the good, the bad, or the ugly. The mind, with its negativity bias, will steer me toward the ugly. The worst-case scenario for the future. The memories I wish I could forget.

Identifying with these thoughts, focusing on them, I’ll feel a certain way (crappy).

The great news is, if I steer my thoughts toward the best-case scenario for the future and the memories I hope I’ll never forget, I’ll feel the way I wish to feel.

Matthieu Ricard, the French writer and Buddhist monk, suggests a great practice: for ten minutes each day, connect with thoughts and memories that make us feel good. When I practice this, I take myself to my “happy place” (I think we all have a happy place). Mine is a secluded beach in New Zealand called Ocean Beach.

In my happy place, I imagine it’s 2012 again and I’m back standing on the hot sand, surrounded by my friends as we jump joyfully into the towering waves. I recall the taste of the salty water, the heat of the sun on my back, the sounds of laughter and the great roar of the ocean. Within seconds of reconnecting with my happy place, these warm feelings, much like the waves themselves, begin to flow.

The feelings that were there, all along, inside of me.

I sometimes forget this truth, so to remind myself I’ve written on my wall:

“Will, you are only one thought away from what you wish to feel.”

2. Make the relationship I have with myself my most important relationship

I’ve had conversations with friends before, good people who are real givers; they genuinely care for other people. Yet they neglect themselves. They tell me they feel guilty for making time for themselves; they feel bad for putting themselves first before other people. That it’s somehow selfish to do so.

The way I see it, putting ourselves first is the least selfish thing we can do.

When I take care of my own needs, I’m able to give more to others because I’m in a good mental place.

When I treat myself with kindness and compassion, this is naturally how I treat other people.

When I honor and look after myself, I’m giving others permission to do the same.

When I look after myself, everyone is better off, myself and others.

A ritual I created this year that I’ll be carrying on into 2018 and beyond is to take myself on dates.

Yep, that’s right, once per week I’ll take myself out on a date.

We deem our loved ones worthy and deserving of dates, why not ourselves?

Sometimes, a self-date means treating myself to a long walk in the forest with a piece of cake in one hand and a coffee in the other. Sometimes, I’ll go for lunch at my favorite Japanese restaurant.

The rules for my self-date are simple: I give myself an experience I enjoy, guilt-free.

Most of us are great at meeting the needs of others, loving others, and responding with understanding, compassion, and kindness.

My question is, what will it take for us to show up like this for ourselves?

I know in 2018 there are going to be days where happiness eludes me. I’m going to experience failure, disappointments, loss, stress, anger, and frustration.

All of which will be difficult, but I know this: I can rely on myself to guide myself through them, as I’m committed to prioritizing the relationship I have with myself.

3. Find glimpses of happiness even during tough times

Happiness for me is an inside of job, as my feelings come from inside of me; they’re internal.

When I believe my happiness is determined by the external world, I’m at its mercy.

I may or may not achieve my goals. I maybe will or maybe won’t have health, wealth, and success in 2018.

There are lots of maybes, which are not necessarily in my control.

So, while I may not feel happy all the time, I’ve decided that my overall happiness will not be a maybe.

I’m a firm believer that even in life’s darkest moments, there are, what I call “glimpses of happiness” to be found.

Sadly, this year, my family and I lost a very special lady, my Nana Joyce.

On the day of my Nana’s funeral, I was due to read a poem, but when it came to standing up and reading, however, my emotions and body had other another plan: to break down.

I’d barely read the name of the poem before tears of grief erupted. Uncontrollably.

I stuttered in an attempt to get the words out, but it wasn’t happening.

The realization that my Nana was gone had hit me.

Then something beautiful happened. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see someone walking toward me.

It was my Uncle Barry.

”Would you like me to read this for you, Wills?”

I groaned something that sounded something like “yes.”

My Uncle Barry proceeded to read the poem, slowly, with a tone of sadness in his voice.

Rather than disappearing to my seat, I stood with him, my hand on his shoulder as I took some deep breaths to calm down.

Despite the strong and shattering grief I experienced, standing there with my uncle, there was a small glimpse of peace, as I knew I wasn’t alone.

Throughout the rest of the day, I noticed more glimpses.

Glimpses of love as my family comforted one another.

Glimpses of laughter as we recalled funny stories from my Nana’s life.

Glimpses of happiness as I acknowledged my family were here on this day as one, supporting each other on this most difficult day.

These glimpses of happiness are always shining, and they work by reflecting back the happiness that already exists inside of us.

They are in the room with me now. They are surrounding you as you read these words.

Acknowledge these glimpses as they appear and you’ll feel happy a lot more often.

Happy New Year.

It's Okay For Boys To Be Emotional. It's Actually Good.

Posted from

Fostering different emotions holds a lot of advantages for health as adults, research has shown. However, it appears we are starting to realise this a little too late. Notably, there is a significant lack of emotional diversity in children, especially young boys. We often box them unnecessarily in shackles that will do them no good when they become adults. These same shackles, we try to break off when they become adults, but it turns out difficult for them and for us to let go as it appears quite often, that we have only managed to shine light on only one part of the emotions they’ve been blessed with, their anger. We leave other emotions vulnerable. We do not teach boys to love and feel loved, to feel compassion, empathy, kindness, etc. Emotional expression by all genders holds great benefits beyond psychological health benefits, unlike emotional suppression that comes with dire consequences.

Our Society And The Dismal Lack Of Paying Attention To Details

Our society runs an imbalanced script. Most times, you find yourself wondering why beliefs such as the fact that men should be less expressive emotionally could find any root in our society. Interestingly, we take an unwarranted detour and create laws, decrees, code of conducts, etc., to tackle the consequences of our ignorance; the consequences of our regarding a certain gender as the “weaker” gender and another, the “stronger” gender, and we rather play a blind eye at the root causes of many evils in the society.

The fear often arises when we do not embrace emotions as a fundamental part of our being as humans and we believe that we can relegate them to the background or even neglect them totally. Unfortunately, they cannot be suppressed for too long; the fight back is often too brutal and uncontrollable for any of our systems to handle. Yet, we do not admit our failure in this regard.

The Rough Way Ahead Without Emotions

In the article titled The importance of fostering emotional diversity in boys by June Gruber and Jessica L. Borelli, they admitted thus – “Boys grow up in a world inhabited by a narrower range of emotions, one in which their experiences of anger are noticed, inferred and potentially even cultivated,” and I cannot seem to agree more. Perhaps, this is so because we want to keep propagating that it is a man’s world. What world is there without emotions as guiding compasses? Teaching boys and girls to cultivate their emotions and to know when and how to utilise them is a failsafe venture into the future especially since it will not be with safe hands alone, but safe minds also.

The Way Forward- Focusing on The Things That Matter

It is about time we focused our discussions on things that matter. While we can be so keen on getting our children educated, I think it is most imperative that we train their emotions first, and allow it serve as premise upon which their judgment and all other cognitive functions rest. We do not have to rely on research to put us in the right direction especially since we have lost it for too long.

Therefore, it is not too late; we can still teach our children (boys and girls inclusive) to experience the full range of emotions. This in fact can be the only way to make our world a better place. I urge you to read the full article here

90% of People Quit After 3 Months of Hitting the Gym, Here's How to Be the Exception

Posted from

I manage a fitness center for one of the biggest brands in Switzerland. My prediction for January: We will have more than 130 new members that will join our facility. This is nearly 100.000 dollar revenue – in a single month.

January is the most lucrative month for fitness centers. A lot of the people start a gym membership, because they want to completely redefine themselves. “New Year – New Me!”, they will post on social media. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. More than 90% of these people will quit after three months of going to the gym. We call them the no-shows.

This is not the ideal situation, neither for the person that is going to the gym or the gym itself. I remember my previous boss telling me: “Florian, the no-shows are not your ideal customers. Gyms will always need them to make money. But the people that are training frequently, reach success and then enthusiastically tell their friends about it – these are our true value customers!

My previous boss had many flaws, but in this aspect he was right. Here are 3 tips that will help you stay training, for months to come.

1. Set Good Goals

Most of the time when clients come into our facility, they haven’t set proper goals. Whenever we fill out the evaluation-form, they write down that they simply want to “lose weight” or “gain muscle”. These two statements are wishes, not goals.

Realistic goals follow the SMART-rule. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. Losing weight is not a goal, losing 5 kilograms of body weight in the next two months is.

I want to stress out the realistic aspect of the goal-setting. Start really small. Having big goals will only frustrate you in the long run. Read about it on forums and then determine what is reasonable. Change one behaviour at a time. Make it sustainable.

Also make sure that you will write your goal down. There’s magic behind a written goal. You will be far more likely to stick to it, if your goal is engrained in paper. Remind yourself of your goals daily – write them on a post-it note and put them on your fridge.

2. Find Accountability

Writing your goals down and putting them on your fridge also have the benefits of creating accountability within your family. Your family will support you and ask you how your journey is going. This makes you more likely to stick to your goals.

Have you ever wondered why gyms have group fitness classes? It’s because having a Group Fitness class helps people foster personal relationships. And relationships within the gym increase the chances of the person renewing his membership. The people that train with a friend will generally train more often and harder. They are more likely to reach their goals.

Ask a friend to go with you on this fitness journey. Post your goal on Facebook and create accountability. Use accountability to your advantage.

3. Learn To Deal With Setbacks

The line to your goals won’t be straight. The sooner you accept this and learn to deal with it – the better.

The diet that you will start doing will not always be clean. The workouts that you will be doing are not always amazing. Don’t beat yourself up about it. These setbacks are simply one of the keys of the game that we all have to play. Accept the setback and immediately move on.

Ten years from now, the people that have learned to deal with setbacks will be the people that are blessed with amazing lives. Angela Duckworth wrote a book on perseverance called Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance. Regarding the 770-5 star reviews, it’s definitely a book worth reading.

Focus on progression and not perfection.

Quitting Makes Nothing Better

I am not a believer in the never quit – mentality. Sometimes it definitely is a reasonable choice to do so. No one would argue, that quitting smoking is a bad thing to do. Quitting can be a reasonable thing – but not in the gym.

Remember that you’ve started going to the gym because you had a big need to fill. You wanted to get in better shape or get healthier. Let me tell you two things: 1. The gym works and 2. Getting in shape is definitely worth it.

It’s a good thing to be able to go to the beach, shirtless, with a chiseled midsection. Smiling, when your friends ask you: “How did you do this?”.

It feels amazing to wake up with energy and walk with confidence through life. These are feelings worth fighting – or should I say: training – for. Stick to your new years resolutions, a great life is waiting for you.

Can You Just Tell Me How to Make Money Online?

Posted from

A lot of things have become much easier to do yourself these days. Need to replace the toilet in your bathroom and don’t really want to pay a licensed plumber to do it? It doesn’t take much for you to Google up several useful tutorials that can walk you through the process. Want to figure out how to apply certain effects and alterations in PhotoShop? Hop over to YouTube and you’ll find some terrific video guides that can guide you through every step of the way too.

From changing tires to changing diapers, you don’t need to have that awkward conversation with your more knowledgeable friend. You don’t need to be ashamed or embarrassed by your lack of knowledge, because you can look up all of this information in the privacy of your own home or even on your smartphone or tablet. It’s so convenient. With so many of these scenarios, you don’t really need to think for yourself. Just follow the instructions exactly as you see them and you should get the end result you desire.

One Step at a Time

And it is perhaps because of this omni-prevalence of step-by-step tutorials and guides that some people have come to assume that they can follow some sort of magic formula and strike it rich on the Internet too. They want to make money online and they want to enjoy the dot com lifestyle. And who can blame them? It truly is desirable.

While there are certainly some great books on the subject that can provide some much needed insight and advice, there is no such thing as the magic bullet of online profitability. You can’t follow and mirror an exact business model and expect to start raking in tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight. It doesn’t work that way, just as it doesn’t work that way with brick-and-mortar businesses.

If you were to try and replicate a Starbucks or McDonald’s on your own, there’s a much better chance that you’d end up buried in mountains of debt than you are to become an international phenemenon beloved by so many coffee and burger enthusiasts from around the globe. It doesn’t work that way. Online is no different, except the barriers to entry are so much lower than anyone can do it.

Anyone Can Do It

True, anyone can do it. The thing is that not everyone actually does do it.

The fact is that there is no singular model for success. Some bloggers do very well for themselves with longer form content published on a less frequent basis, while others do very well with shorter, more frequent posts. Some focus their efforts with videos on YouTube, whereas others make all their money on the back end with an email newsletter. Some build their wealth through brand ambassadorships and sponsored content, whereas others reap huge benefits through affiliate marketing.

Under each and every one of those different scenarios, you’ll also find a multitude of different tips, tactics and strategies that all have a legitimate shot at earning you some serious dough online.

It is much easier to be told what to do. It is much easier when you are provided with a strict set of guidelines that you are meant to follow without deviation and without question. It’s much easier to a simple cog in the machine, working on the assembly line by repeating exactly the same task over and over again. But following these strict instructions is not the way of the dot com lifestyle and it’s not the way you are going to achieve those Internet riches you desire so much.

I Did It My Way

What you’ll come to learn is that a flexible framework specific to the individual is far more effective. Take in the advice and insights of those who came before you. Look into the systems promoted by John Chow, the blogging tips of Zac Johnson, the business savvy of Darren Rowse, and the shrewd strategy of Jeremy Schoemaker. Learn from their experience and their recommendations, but adapt them to your own specific situation and circumstances.

The Internet changes quickly. And you need to be able to change with it. Someone can tell you how to make your first dollar or even your first few hundred dollars online, but no one can confidently provide step-by-step instructions for earning your first million. That’s on you and you alone.

Revamp Your Complete Facebook Strategy

Posted from

Facebook advertising can get pretty tough if you don’t know what metrics to focus on. Each year, Facebook adds more users to their existing number and this means you’ll have so many more people to engage through your page and/or ad campaign. Testing and tweaking is truly the way to go to improve your success on Facebook and I recommend to everyone to keep trying different things to find out what provides the best results. With so much research and data available online, I’m always finding cool new ways to attract a larger audience through my Facebook campaigns and pages. I’ve learned what metrics to pay close attention to which NOT only provides increased engagement, but also a higher ROI.

When posting to Facebook, you might want to consider the following…

Focus on Big Name Companies

Everyone is using Facebook and this means even the Fortune 500 companies. These companies tend to have a larger marketing budget and have experts in charge of their marketing campaigns. I like to find popular companies in my niche and pay close attention to what they’re doing because they’ve tested everything out. I’ve noticed this can be broken down into the following:

Openness – Big name companies have succeeded because they have shown followers what goes on inside the company. Full disclosure has been proven build trust with their audience.

Access – Provide users with a way to interact and speak with you about issues. This means giving them access to your community and to “you” so they can get solutions when they need them.

Positivity – A company that provides positivity to their audience will succeed because it draws people into your page. Positivity has also allowed for people to express their opinion openly, which allows you to find creative ways to improve your business.

The Right Timing

I can’t stress how important it is to make sure you post during the right times. I suggest always running a campaign or simply “share” at all times when first starting out. It’s important to collect data so you can tweak going forward. Some companies have found success when posting at non-peak times because others are stagnant, providing users with little choice during those times. However, the only way to find out is by posting at different times and tracking the results going forward. Here’s what matters in the end…

  • Find what times give you highest engagement
  • Find what times provide the highest ROI
  • Try all times and track always

Share Original Content + Photos

We all know how original high quality content is important in ensuring loyalty from users but it’s time to shake things up by being different. Big companies have found that sharing photos of the companies and employees is a great way to build loyalty. Why? It shows there is a real person behind the company and people can relate better to others than simple content. If you’re a single blogger then it might help to share photos of you and your family.

If you scroll through, you’ll see several pictures of John Chow with his family travelling, eating, etc. This just adds value to his blog because people can relate to a human more than just the text.

Always Ask Questions

I’ve seen many people post content, but very little will ask their followers questions. Have you ever thought using such an approach will create a level of respect with your audience? Asking your followers questions will show them you care about their opinion and are continually looking to improve your blog. A simple question after “sharing” your content can go a very long way, which is way many top bloggers have a comment box towards the bottom of their content. However, your approach on Facebook should be a bit different because instead of just sharing, you should post a question with your content. This will start a debate on your wall and it’s a great way to pull topic ideas at the same time.

For optimal success, try out each strategy and tweak your campaign accordingly. Timing is a big part of this strategy because you don’t want to post during times when people in your niche are NOT engaging on Facebook.
